Why Doctors Without Borders does not participate in Giro555

The Giro 555 fundraising campaign for the situation in the Middle East cannot have escaped anyone’s attention. Giro555 is a collaboration of aid organizations that jointly collect donations during large-scale humanitarian disasters.

Doctors Without Borders has not participated in Giro555 fundraising campaigns since 2006.

Our emergency response worldwide
Our mission is to help people in need, where it is needed most. This means that we are not only committed to major disasters that make the news, but also to less visible and discussed crisis situations. Donations to Doctors Without Borders are therefore not allocated to one specific disaster. This gives us the freedom to act quickly and, thanks to the support of our donors, provide emergency medical aid anywhere in the world.

Not all crisis situations are highlighted in the news. There are many places where people are suffering unimaginably and need urgent help. Yet they are hardly talked about. We also provide our emergency medical aid where cameras are not present, such as now in Sudan, where millions of people have fled due to the war.

Giro555 and Doctors Without Borders
Giro555 takes action when a large-scale humanitarian disaster occurs. All donations to Giro555 will be used to provide relief for that disaster alone. In order to guarantee our independence and use donations for emergency aid where we see the need is greatest, we have decided to stop our collaboration with Giro555.
