It was just announced that four Dutch museums have been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2024; no fewer than two of them are located in De Plantage!

The European Museum Forum has announced the nominees for the European Museum of the Year Award 2024. The nominees from our country are:

  • ARTIS-Groote Museum, Amsterdam
  • Resistance Museum, Amsterdam
  • Media Museum Image & Sound, Hilversum
  • Schoenenkwartier, Waalwijk

With two nominees from one neighborhood, De Plantage is remarkably well represented. Last year’s winner, Museum of the Mind, is also located in our neighborhood. That makes De Plantage a neighborhood full of innovative quality museums :-); a real ‘museum quarter’.

The winner of the EMYA 2024 will be announced during the annual EMYA conference that will take place in Portimão, Portugal from 1 to 4 May 2024. The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) is a prestigious prize awarded annually to museums that excel in their innovative approach, educational impact and social involvement.

The prize not only recognizes artistic excellence, but also emphasizes the role of museums as drivers of social dialogue and cultural exchange within Europe and beyond. Dutch museums have previously won the EMYA.

In the recent past, the Museum of the Mind (2022), Naturalis (2021), Rijksmuseum Boerhaave (2019) and the Rijksmuseum (2015) have been awarded this prize.
