This year we are once again calling on you to count bees for half an hour in the garden, on the balcony or in a green spot in De Plantage.
This time no weekend but a ten-day count! Are you also participating? Participating is easy, even if you don’t know much about bees. On the website you can see how to recognize the 16 bee species that you may encounter.
Why count bees?
There are almost 360 bee species in the Netherlands. More than half of them are endangered. Bees are important for pollination; 80% of our edible crops and almost 90% of our wild plants are pollinated by bees and other insects. The more we know about bees, the better we can help them. That is why this national bee survey. Researchers use the results of the National Bee Count to see where different bee species occur in the Netherlands and whether those numbers are increasing or decreasing.
The National Bee Count is a joint project of Naturalis, IVN Nature Education and LandschappenNL.
