How to make an opera as sustainable as possible?

Ever thought of the fact that an exhibition, a ballet performance or an opera produces a lot of waste? Museums and theaters face the daily challenge of working as sustainably as possible. National Opera and Ballet published an interesting background article about it.

Dutch National Opera and Ballet is one of the participants of the Zero Waste Expedition Plantage, or ZWEP. The ZWEP is a joint waste contract of 8 cultural institutions, implemented by Renewi, which significantly reduces the burden on the streets of the Plantagebuurt. In stead of every institution has its own truck in front of the door, they work together and therefor there is only one truck that drives past all participants. And the sorted waste is disposed of by boat.

But National Opera and Ballet does so much more. They look critically at their business operations and tackle all aspects thoroughly. Who knows, you might get inspired yourself, even if you don’t work with special effects, props and operas every day.

Or with: the ballet dancers’ pointe shoes, clean transport of the sets and the recycling of costumes… Every aspect can always be a little cleaner.
