Droppie, an innovative collection point that rewards the handing in of waste, has recently been installed on the Marineterrein. Droppie wants to make recycling as easy and attractive as possible.
The Droppie container is full of sensors, scanning and sorting equipment that together ensure that the waste (packaging and deposit bottles) is processed automatically. This way, everyone can hand in waste without help. The system recognizes what is submitted and processes it correctly.
The Droppie app indicates where and what type of waste can be handed in. On average, the reward is about 15 cents per kilo. This reward is automatically tracked and paid out via the app.
Self-sufficient container
The Droppie container can operate completely self-sufficiently. By using renewable energy, the system also works in places without a power connection. This way, collection points can be located everywhere in the future.
More than just collecting
The project on the Marineterrein is not only a collection point for deposit products. You can dispose of the following types of waste:
- E-waste
- Plastic packaging
- Deposit bottles
Droppie aims with this experiment:
- improve recycled materials through more efficient collection.
- gather insights about consumer recycling behavior.
- optimize logistics processes.
With what is learned at the Marineterrein, the system can be further expanded to other places in the city.
Participate?
Download the Droppie app via Google Play or the App Store, follow the steps in the app and start collecting. Your earned income will be immediately deposited into your account with a tap, but you can also donate to local initiatives such as De Regenboog Groep or the community center.
