On Sunday 13 March, Dutch National Opera & Ballet and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti, gave a benefit concert for Ukraine. The sold-out benefit evening followed the ArtforUkraine cultural campaign that took place on March 4, 5 and 6. The proceeds of the concert and the performances during the action weekend, € 164,000, have been donated to Giro555.
New artistic director
Dutch National Opera welcomes Edward Ananian-Cooper as artistic director of the Chorus of Dutch National Opera with effect from the 22/23 season. With his appointment in Amsterdam, he succeeds Ching-Lien Wu, who said goodbye to the Choir in April last year.
Welcome five new dancers
On Wednesday 16 March, the Dutch National Ballet welcomed the Russian Olga Smirnova, principal with the world-famous Bolshoy Ballet, and the Brazilian Victor Caixeta, rising star and second soloist with the Marijinski Ballet in Saint Petersburg. Both dancers will immediately start working with the company. In addition, three Ukrainian dancers have joined the company from 1 April: Polina Loshchylina (National Opera Of Ukraine), Kate Myklukha (National Opera Of Ukraine) and Victoria Glazunova (Bolshoi Ballet) with the Junior Company.
