Coming soon: Adopt a wild bee in the Plantagebuurt

Published on Monday, April 14News

A great diversity of pollinators, and wild bees in particular, is crucial for biodiversity. However, their numbers are decreasing at an alarming rate worldwide. All hands on deck for the wild bee, also in the Plantage neighbourhood!

Neighbourhood network De Plantage embraces an initiative by Hans Kalliwoda. He is concerned about the dire situation of the wild bee and has developed a sound plan over the past ten years, supported by science and developed with the creativity of his artist’s head.

Adopt a wild bee
Over the past ten years, Hans has been working on a way to create a welcome for the wild bee in an urban environment. Each neighbourhood will get its own wild bee to adopt: that bee needs specific plants, a “Bee totem” in the public space and people in the neighbourhood who care about that bee.

Various activities
In the coming months, there will be regular reports about the wild bee in the Plantage neighbourhood. Which bee will we adopt? Where will the bee totem be? When will it be unveiled? What can we do ourselves to keep that bee totem healthy? With which green waste can we feed the bee totem? And which plants should we plant on our balcony or in the garden for our ‘own’ bee?
