Who still listens to nature ? A requiem in Groote Museum

00:00:00event

The Foundation Ligamenten invites you to a unique and inspiring evening in the Groote Museum, focusing on the relationship between people and nature and examining it from different angles.

Mass for the Endangered, by a project choir and orchestra with collaboration by two artists

The Foundation Ligamenten presents a stimulating and connecting evening, in which the relationship between people and nature is reflected in various ways with the participation of choir, orchestra, spoken word and image presentation. The program features three different artistic expressions that normally rarely encounter each other, and each comment on the same subject from their own perspective. Both participants and audience are thus introduced to a surprising and layered reflection.

The three parts come together in an evening-filling program in which the Mass’ call for compassion, compassion and equality is central. The three parts allow the audience to pause and reflect on the ecological crisis. We want to connect and support people in their concerns about our interaction with nature. A universal theme. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for exchange with the performing artists; In the program booklet we offer tips for more information and perspectives for action.

The evenings are filled with music, images and spoken word. Contributions by spoken word artist Nikki Ong, plant hunter Marian van Weert and actor Remco Melles show their involvement in this subject from their own discipline.

Under the direction of Wiebe Gotink, 20 singers and 12 musicians perform the ‘Mass for the Endangered, a composition by the American composer Sarah Kirkland Snider from 2018. Texts are by Daniel Bellows, who combines self-written English texts with Latin mass texts.

A requiem for endangered nature and a hymn for the voiceless and the oppressed.

A compelling musical call for compassion with nature that is dying. On Friday, November 22, 2024 the work will be performed in the ‘Basilica of Saint Nicholas’ as part of a new festival: Spirit of Amsterdam.

The piece will be performed in the Groote Museum of Artis on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 November ’24.
