Come look at the price-winning works from the TV program De Gezonken Meesters in Het Scheepvaartmuseum
This exhibition shows the price-winning works from the Omroep Max television program of the same name. Works of art from the ship ‘Vrouw Maria’, which sank in the eighteenth century, are revived in this program. The twelve winning paintings from the television program – six by master painters and six by artists in the free category – can be seen. From paintings in the original style to contemporary interpretations with waste or glass: the twelve works on display each have their own perspective. In the exhibition, visitors have the unique opportunity to admire new versions of the lost works of art.
The story of the Lady Mary
In 1771, the Dutch sailing ship Vrouw Maria got into trouble off the coast of Finland. In a heavy storm the ship sinks, and to this day the ship still lies there on the seabed. With several masterpieces by Dutch painters on board, such as Paulus Potter and Gerard Dou. No one knows what these paintings look like, but we can get an idea of them from the descriptions on the inventory list.
The Sunken Masters on TV
For the Omroep MAX program De Gezonken Meesters, contemporary artists made their own version of one of the sunken works. These are paintings by Gerard Dou, Paulus Potter, Gabriël Metsu, Gerard ter Borch, Adriaen van Ostade and Philips Wouwerman. to admire up close.
