Rembrandt is known as a passionate man. But do you see that reflected in his etchings?
In the summer exhibition ‘Rembrandt and Love’ you look at love through Rembrandt’s eyes: from dramatic love to parental love, from neighborly love to animal love. Rembrandt’s own love life is of course also discussed: the artist immortalized his first great love, Saskia Uylenburgh, on the etching plate more than once. The exhibition features approximately 50 etchings from the collection of Museum Rembrandthuis: to fall in love with.
Peacocks When
When Rembrandt moved into his new house on Jodenbreestraat, he painted his Still life with peacocks. He may even have made it especially for his new home. It is a special work within his oeuvre: Rembrandt made only one other still life. The Still Life with Peacocks, which usually hangs in the Gallery of Honor of the Rijksmuseum, can be seen for the first time from 1 July in the Rembrandt House Museum – the place where Rembrandt lived and made his masterpieces. The work can be admired during the exhibition ‘Rembrandt and love’.
In a special presentation you can be one-on-one with this painting and get even closer to Rembrandt’s artwork thanks to the multimedia tour.
