Oy Vey Jewish Film Festival 2 to 5 May 2024
Oy Vey strives for a “radically inclusive, dynamic and contemporary Jewish movement where Jewish life and joy are central and where differences are celebrated.” For this reason, Oy Vey’s own film lovers have put together a film festival – and Kriterion is proud to organize it! “Finally a real Jewish film festival in Mokum!
From May 2 to 5, a selection of the most beautiful Jewish films of recent years will be shown in Kriterion.
In four days, ten film blocks and more than fourteen films we take you on a wonderful journey through the Jewish world. With our theme Borderless: Stories from the Diaspora, we focus on the diasporic character of Jewish culture and offer a glimpse into contemporary, living Jewishness. We explore themes such as marking the life cycle, joy and sadness, life as a cultural and religious minority, but also the impact of the persecution of the Jews. We also reflect on the meaning and importance of commemoration at this time with a special program on May 4 and 5 (including a special Oy Vey commemoration of death).
There are Dutch premieres, never-before-seen short films and reruns of 35mm films that you won’t want to miss! With discussions with guest speakers and filmmakers, performances by poets, music and the most beautiful Jewish films, the very first edition of Oy Vey Film promises to be a highlight of the year. In short: you definitely don’t want to miss this!”
May 2 until May 5 2024, Film program Oy Vey, Filmtheater Kriterion, Roetersstraat 170
