For the first time this year; the Amsterdam Seaport Days, from 23 to 26 June 2022.
During these four days you can learn everything about shipping and ports. In Amsterdam, but also in IJmuiden, Beverwijk and Zaanstad, for example, there are guided tours and workshops at port companies and maritime service providers. You can do city walks, or a boat trip through the harbor; there is even a chocolate cruise! Check the website for the entire program.
De Plantage also goes maritime
Because in Museum ’t Kromhout the old ship’s engines are already roaring; there you can learn all about this maritime heritage over the weekend of 25 and 26 June. If you are lucky, you can also take to the water in the boat ‘de Jaro’ that sails between ’t Kromhout and the Maritime Museum. No sea legs? Then take one of the walks along buildings with a special seaport history, organized by Stadsherstel.
During these days you can view the new exhibition Amsterdam-Havenstad in the National Maritime Museum, about the age-old relationship between the port and the city. There is also plenty to see and experience in and around the museum. From the quay you can board for a free boat trip. Or you can follow one of the guided tours of the exhibition or build your Kapla block boat. Also fun for children; the Amsterdam shipping company Spliethoff sets up a water trough with a miniature freighter that is controlled remotely. A small job market has been set up in the Admiralty Hall for work in the port.
