The summer months are over and so the monthly Modern Classics are back in Kriterion!
From erotic bedfellow (think the egg yolk scene inTampopo ) to symbol of a changed order (think the decadent tarts inMarie Antoinette ), food has played many roles on the silver screen. Enjoy a range of films about food during September’s mouthwatering Modern Classics programme. Films range from the 1980 arthouse documentaryGarlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers , an exploration of the culinary, medicinal and historical uses of garlic, to a portrait of 85-year-old celebrity sushi chef Jiro Ono inJiro Dreams of Sushi .
Following on from the sold-out Tampopo screening with ramen catering last March, each film in this program will be paired with a matching catering program. For example, on September 16, our Summer Sunday Brunch star Jessica will be frying green tomatoes prior to the screening of Fried Green Tomatoes .
