Hortus Amsterdam will once again be celebrating winter this year in December with Hortus by Night evenings.
From Monday 19 December to Sunday 8 January, the Hortus is open until 10 p.m. and you can enjoy the fairytale-like illuminated garden and greenhouses. Literally step into the world of plants with the exhibition ‘Plant is Present’ and discover why people and plants are not so different from each other. Or join an evening excursion that stimulates all your senses and enjoy a hot drink around the campfire.
For the children there is an exciting storyteller by the fire: Abe the Storyteller. Come and listen to fantastic fairy tales, sagas and myths – with tasty marshmallows at your fingertips. During Hortus by Night you can come and listen every Wednesday from 17:00 to 18:00.
The Hortus café: mulled wine, hot chocolate and dinner
It is wonderful to stay in and around the Oranjerie this winter. The menu pays extra attention to festive food. Think of pies, quiches, cheese boards or, for those with a sweet tooth, delicious tartelettes with pumpkin or stewed pear. For the die-hards, there is a warming glühwein or chocolate milk available outside by the campfire. After a guided tour or visit to the ‘Plant is Present’ exhibition, come for an evening of dinner with friends or family. Your cozy winter evening is complete in the Hortus.
