Hortus by Night is back!

00:00:00event

Join us on a journey through time through the beautifully lit Hortus, view the exhibition about green survivors and enjoy fairy tales, mulled wine, chocolate and Christmas choirs by the campfire.

From 19 December, the garden and greenhouses will be open extra long during Hortus by Night: until 22:00! Put on a warm sweater and walk through the atmospherically lit garden. We will take you on a journey through time, past thematic light installations and the exhibition about cycads. Light artist Tim Vermeulen will take you on a journey through time – from the Big Bang to primeval plant and from light to life.
Time travel through the garden
A video projection, mysterious soundscapes and an interactive mycelium path, among other things, will make you think about the origin of life. And you will walk past the fairytale work ‘Motus Vitae‘ (movement of life) in the large pond – which is reminiscent of a mysterious planetary system.

Exhibition: green survivors of prehistoric times
And we will also go back in time; very far back in time, in fact, because we will dive into the world of cycads. It is hard to imagine, but these primeval plants experienced the rise and extinction of the dinosaurs. What kind of plant group is this, which inhabited our earth before the dinosaurs?

Fairy tales, mulled wine and a Christmas choir
On Friday evenings, Abe the Storyteller tells exciting stories by the campfire on our Orangery terrace. Come and listen to fantastic fairy tales, legends and myths – with delicious marshmallows and hot chocolate! And also on Friday: an atmospheric Christmas choir to get you in the festive mood. Want to warm up a bit more? The café also serves delicious mulled wine.

Hortus by Night, 19 to 23 December, 27 to 30 December and 2 to 5 January, until 22:00, Plantage Middenlaan 2a.
