The construction of Edition 13 of the Amsterdam Light Festival has started; with Hoftuin in our neighborhood as the festival heart.

In the coming weeks, technicians and artists will be busy gradually transforming Amsterdam into a city full of light art and creativity. The theme of the festival this year is Rituals; the organization celebrates Amsterdam750 with light. With art. With each other.

Rituals have always been linked to all kinds of transformations: from past to future, from winter to summer, from youth to adulthood. We use fireworks to ring in the new year, candles to commemorate and midsummer fires to welcome the solstice. Light adds something mystical to a ritual and rituals bring people together.

This year, 27 unique light artworks have been developed by artists from home and abroad. The works of art can be admired from the water or on land. Works of art about spirituality, self-awareness and maritime space will transform the center of Amsterdam into a special experience.

Hoftuin festival heart
Once again this year, the Hoftuin will be transformed into the heart of the festival, aptly called the Light Garden. In this special courtyard of the Diaconie you will find two light artworks, an information point and catering. Every Friday in December there is programming with lectures and music.
