During this guided tour in dialogue form we discover the Gay Games Amsterdam 1998, the ‘Olympic Games’ for the queer community. The tour tells stories about the visibility, pride and inspiration that the Gay Games have brought, but we also show the other side. We reflect on the underrepresentation of certain groups and the fact that some people could have been more prominent, but did not have the resources to do so.
Different perspectives
Using various works of art, objects, photos and archive material, we take you through the history of the Gay Games in Amsterdam and reflect on a rich and important part of LGBTQ+ history. Which stories from the LGBTQ+ community receive a lot of attention and which do not? What is the status of queer inclusion now compared to then? And which stories, works of art and objects contribute to a more complete picture of the Gay Games? In this way we hope to highlight different perspectives to enrich our image of the Gay Games Amsterdam 1998.
