00:00:00event

The Chinese New Year begins on February 10, 2023 according to the Chinese calendar: the year of the dragon. And the Wereldmuseum celebrates that…

The dragon symbolizes strength and courage. The color red is important at this festival because it symbolizes happiness. On the weekend of February 10 and 11, the Sabi Suriname exhibition in the Wereldmuseum will celebrate Chinese New Year. Everywhere Chinese live, Chinese New Year is celebrated. Also in Suriname, Indonesia and the Netherlands. In Suriname, Chinese New Year is even a National Holiday.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in the museum around February 10 and during the spring holidays with numerous children’s activities and workshops including reading, Chinese cutting and calligraphy.
