During the dark winter months, Amsterdam Light Festival once again transforms the city into a canvas for light art. For the eleventh time in a row, we are illuminating residents and visitors of Amsterdam with a 6.5 kilometer route through the eastern part of the center. This edition consists of twenty works of art of national and international origin. Be amazed during one of our walking or sailing experiences and learn everything about the works of art, artists and the theme.
Theme
We take you into the world of the imagination. With imagination we can envision the day of tomorrow however we want; dream ahead, and transcend the here and now. Be inspired by the twenty light artworks against the wintry backdrop of Amsterdam. Are we talking with lamps? Do we only have virtual bridges left? Does the water flow up? Find out for yourself during Edition 11.
Sustainability
A large part of the light artworks was built from the water, using electric boats! Technicians, parts and materials were brought in from the centrally located work area. Green electricity and LED lighting are used in the artworks and printed media and communication materials are used as little as possible.
A renewed identity
After a decade of festival editions, it was time for a makeover. We are proud to present our new logo and corporate identity! Take a look at the renewed website and book your tickets right away.
Projects
Also this edition we have a few special projects. In the field of education, three talented students from a Breitner Academy are making a light artwork for the route with their own hands. Approximately 1000 primary school students from all over Amsterdam contribute to a work of art by Studio Toer and learn about the importance of bridges and quay walls in various workshops. In addition, we put the elderly in the spotlight during an evening with special cruises.
