For the construction of a six-meter-high waterfall, the Hortus is looking for garden tiles from Amsterdam residents!
Recycling the tiles therefore fits in with the sustainable construction plans of the new Climate Greenhouse in the Hortus. To find these tiles, the Hortus found a partner in the municipality of Amsterdam, which encourages Amsterdam residents to exchange stone for greenery with the free tile collection service. How nice is that?
It promises to be an eye-catcher, the waterfall of the new Climate Greenhouse of the Hortus, which will be constructed with used Amsterdam tiles. The waterfall is a design by BOOM Landscape, which is responsible for the entire landscape design of the greenhouse. The Hortus and the Municipality of Amsterdam work together to obtain the tiles. With the Tile Service of the Municipality of Amsterdam, city residents are encouraged to exchange their garden tiles for more greenery. The Hortus needs 30×30 cm tiles for its waterfall: and we can really use your tile!
Will you also contribute?
On Saturday, September 21, a pallet will be ready in the Hortus where Amsterdam residents can leave their tiles. As a thank you for bringing tiles, you will receive a plant as a gift! Someone is ready at the entrance to show you the way.
Please note, there is a maximum: if you have more than 5 tiles, you can register for the Tile Service. Maybe you don’t have time or transportation to get to the Hortus with your tile(s). The pick-up service will also come in handy: on September 16, the pick-up service will visit Amsterdam East, South East and Weesp and on September 23 in Amsterdam Center and South. Do you live in North? The next collection round will take place on September 30. Register here for the Tile Service.
Amsterdam residents will be able to see their paving stones again in 2025. The Climate Greenhouse will open its doors to the public again in June 2025, during the celebration of 750 Years of Amsterdam.
