The Resistance Museum is heading for a record number of almost 120,000 visitors in 2024.
This success is partly due to the opening of a new permanent department on the Second World War in the former Dutch colonies. This multimedia presentation, which was festively opened by Mayor Halsema in October, highlights the resistance against colonial rule and the Japanese occupation of Indonesia from different perspectives. The department is the final part of the complete renovation of the museum, which started in 2022.
Director Liesbeth van der Horst: “More Dutch people now recognize themselves in the stories in the museum. We see the audience changing and the museum receives many five-star reviews on platforms such as Google and Tripadvisor. We are very happy with this visitor record.”
The Resistance Museum Amsterdam looks forward with enthusiasm to 2025, a special year in which 80 years of liberation will be celebrated and the museum will be in existence for 40 years. The museum remains committed to reaching new target groups and promoting the themes of resistance, solidarity and human rights.
