This autumn, Dutch National Opera & Ballet presents two special productions for children and families.
Lennox and the Golden Sickle – ages 8+
An energetic hip-hop opera about family, friendship and courage. Lennox knows that his father is ill, but no one tells him exactly what is going on. When his father forgets to take his lucky necklace to the hospital, Lennox and his best friend set off to bring it to him.
The children’s book Lennox and the Golden Sickle by Zindzi Zevenbergen, about sickle cell disease, has been adapted into a youth opera by RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. and Dutch National Opera, featuring new music by Bnnyhunna.

Cherry Town – ages 10+
Physical theatre, hip-hop dance, live music and plenty of humour come together in Cherry Town. In a big city where housing is scarce and rents are high, many people hope to find a home in the new Cherry Trees Estate. But a selfish property developer stands in their way. Can honesty and love triumph over corruption?
This colourful family production is based on Dmitri Shostakovich’s only operetta and is directed by Jakop Ahlbom. The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra performs the music live.
