Looking for a fun day out with your (grand)children? Every Sunday, there’s something to discover at Wereldmuseum. Explore celebrations from around the world, join creative workshops and enjoy an interactive museum experience together.
Summer activities
🌟 July – Tanabata (Star Festival)
Every Sunday in July (5, 12, 19 and 26 July), children can make their own Japanese wish decoration (fukinagashi). Write down your wish and hang it on a bamboo branch, just like during Japan’s Tanabata Festival.
🎁 August – Raksha Bandhan
Every Sunday in August (2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 August), discover the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan. Children can create a colourful friendship bracelet (rakhi) to give to someone they have a special bond with.
🕛 Workshops take place from 12.00 to 4.00 pm (last entry at 3.30 pm) in the Celebration Shop.
There’s always more to discover
Besides the Sunday activities, there’s plenty to explore throughout the museum:
🦅 Council of the Raven (ages 6+) – an interactive exhibition where children discover how they can become climate heroes through play.
🎉 CELEBRATE! Around the World (ages 6+) – discover celebrations from across the globe, take a music quiz, learn festive dances and dress up for the occasion.
🔎 Wereldmuseum Junior – enjoy treasure hunts, storytelling and hands-on activities specially designed for children up to 12 years old.
📦 Boxie – borrow a free Boxie from the museum shop and explore the museum through fun assignments and fascinating objects.
🎂 Birthday parties – celebrate your birthday at the museum with a special programme for children aged 5–12.
Wereldmuseum is an interactive museum where children are encouraged not only to look, but also to discover, touch and take part. With so much to see and do, every visit offers a new adventure!
