Starting in September, a different musician will take children on a musical journey of discovery at Splendor every second Sunday of the month.
These are not concerts where children are expected to sit quietly and simply listen. They can discover unusual instruments up close, hear the stories behind the music and ask plenty of questions.
The programme
- 13 September, 11:00 – Trombone, trumpet, drums, piano and harpsichord. The children will also discover how they can compose their own music for the televised New Year’s Concert.
- 11 October, 11:00 – Cimbalom, percussion and bassoon, including a special children’s bassoon.
- 8 November, 11:00 – An entire family of recorders, accompanied by tuba and percussion.
- 13 December, 15:00 – An introduction to the kemençe, a traditional string instrument with a distinctive sound.
- 10 January, 11:00 – Violin, vibraphone and possibly saxophones.
- 14 February, 11:00 – Composer Renske shows how a piece of music is created, accompanied by cello, cimbalom, drums and double bass.
- 14 March, 11:00 – Featuring the harp, among other instruments. The rest of the programme will be announced later.
- 11 April, 11:00 – The series concludes during the Traditional Strings Festival, with a musical journey around the world through Splendor’s three concert halls and an introduction to unusual string instruments from different cultures.
The first concert takes place on Sunday 13 September at 11:00.
