Listen to De Joodse Stad this summer, season 2 about Rapenburg and De Plantage! After the first season of the podcast series De Joodse Stad about Vlooienburg and Uilenburg, a new episode will be online every week from July 7, this time about Rapenburg and De Plantage!

When did these neighborhoods come into being, what makes them so special, and what can still be seen of the pre-war Jewish history of the neighborhood? Researcher Julia van der Krieke travels to De Plantage for this series and talks to residents, historians and Amsterdam Jews about the hidden stories of the neighborhood.

From diamonds to Plancius and the zoo
Listen to The Jewish City and learn about Jewish activist women, clandestine brothels, the Jewish musicians that the neighborhood was rich in, how colorfully Herman Heijermans wrote about the diamond industry, whether comedian Micha Wertheim can identify with namesake A.C., who used to sing in the Plancius building (the current Resistance Museum), and how important Artis Zoo was for Jewish artists, writers, and other residents of the neighborhood.
Project The Jewish City
This series is part of the larger project The Jewish City, a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam, the Jewish Cultural Quarter, and the Municipality of Amsterdam and is produced by Caspar Stalenhoef and Julia van der Krieke, with music by Akim Moiseenkov.
