You are welcome to attend the lecture given by Hans Kalliwoda, artist and co-director of the Urban Ecology & Ecocities Lab (TU Delft) on Thursday 24 April at 16:30. Subject? Hans is on a mission to help wild bees, also in the Plantagebuurt.
Wild bees do not sting. They do not make honey, but they are essential for the ecosystem, and therefore also for us humans. Wild bees are not doing so well in the countryside. Scientists have discovered that they often do better in the city than in the countryside! And that is why cities must also do everything they can to make their environment friendlier for wild bees.
Hans Kalliwoda has been committed to this for ten years. In collaboration with scientists and institutions such as Naturalis (Leiden) and the Hortus Botanicus in our Plantagebuurt, he develops projects that bring art and science together in public space. One of the results is the ‘BeeTotems’. These bee totems are welcome places for the Refubees: the bee as an urban refugee.
BeeTotem in the Plantage
This year, two new BeeTotems will be realized, including one in the Plantage next June. And the entire neighborhood will be involved! Curious how? Then you should definitely come to the lecture (in Dutch) on April 24.
Location: SOOP, at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 124.
Time: walk-in 4:00 PM, start 4:30 PM, until approximately 5:30 PM (and then a snack & drink)
