For five days, The National Maritime Museum opened its doors free of charge to everyone, in celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam and SAIL 2025.
In total, the museum welcomed 28,995 visitors, with an absolute record of 11,872 guests on Saturday alone. Despite the large crowds, the atmosphere in and around the museum remained relaxed and festive. Visitors could step aboard the guest ships, where enthusiastic crews shared stories about life at sea. The launch of the MARTAN x The National Maritime Museum collection also drew attention: it was showcased across the city at Athenaeum Bookstore, X-Bank, the NACO house, and of course at the museum itself. The collection also received wide coverage in the press.
Saturday evening featured Changing Currents, a collaborative evening program with Melkweg Amsterdam and SAIL. Willem, Jaïr Faria, Anne-Fay, and Djé-Rimo delivered powerful performances full of energy and vulnerability, creating a space where past and future came together.
On Sunday, August 24, the very first edition of ROOTS ON DECK took place. Through a livestream, audiences could tune in to music and stories from the Moluccan communities.
It was five unforgettable days filled with connection, inspiration, and celebration. Onward to SAIL 2030!⚓✨
