Exclusive Visit to the Wereldmuseum- new years activity

Last Thursday, January 15th, we celebrated the New Year in a very special way. The Wereldmuseum, located in the KIT building, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, stayed open an hour longer – especially for us. This way, we, as a neighborhood network, had the entire museum to ourselves!

We started the evening with a highly inspiring introduction by Wayne Modest, Director of content Wereldmuseum, with locations in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Leiden. He explained the light artwork in the central hall: Knotted by Raven Kwok — an interactive installation inspired by Chinese knot art, which responds to the movements of visitors. Of course, we tested this thoroughly.

Wayne Modest talked about the importance of art in his life and how he wants to bring many more visitors and residents in the Plantagebuurt into contact with the beautiful objects in the Wereldmuseum, but also with each other.

After the introduction, we were free to explore the exhibitions. Building Black Civilizations featured an artwork made up of no less than one million black LEGO bricks, created by artist Ekow Nimako. The interactive section was equally impressive and invited us to build with LEGO ourselves. We were also amazed by the exhibition Made in China — beautifully designed, interactive and refreshingly innovative.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening, and a perfect opportunity to get to know each other a little better as well. And such a beautiful museum calls for us to return.
