Tulip month in the Hortus

00:00:00event

April is tulip month in the Hortus!

The tulip is inextricably linked to the Netherlands, although its origins lie far away. For centuries, the Dutch have been cultivating the most special specimens. This has resulted in thousands of varieties, in all shapes and colours. In the Hortus, these modern varieties stand next to their wild ancestors from the mountains of Kazakhstan.

The tulip as we know it does not really belong in a botanical garden, because it was made by human hands. The distant ancestors of the tulip are graceful, fragile flowers that grow on the foothills of the Himalayas.

In April, you can admire the most diverse varieties throughout the garden! Will you come along for a tulip walk?

Tulip Day in the store on April 5
The store is also offering spring sales right outside the door; with extra organic plants and tulip items, such as cute felt tulips, tulip bags, vases, notebooks and much more.

And here you can read more about the history of the tulip.
