Plantage

Dear members of the wonderful Neighborhood Network De Plantage: Neighbors and other friends of the area — we warmly invite you to a joyful start of summer in the Plantage neighborhood!

You are all welcome on Wednesday, July 2nd from 4:00 PM at Mr. Visserplein to celebrate together and wrap up an inspiring chapter.

What are we celebrating?
First, the brand-new panels of our open-air exhibition at Mr. Visserplein have just been reveiled. These signs tell the stories of special places in the neighborhood and the Jewish Amsterdammers they were named after—a tribute to a centuries-long connection. Together with a guide, we’ll explore some of these locations on foot.

Second, we’ll mark the closing of the Jewish City project in De Plantage. Over the past year, the University of Amsterdam, the Jewish Cultural Quarter (JCK), and the City of Amsterdam have joined forces to give new visibility to the history of Jewish Amsterdam and bring it back to the city. The project included various activities in and about the Plantagebuurt, such as a podcast series and the celebration of the Sukkot festival.

What can you expect?
We’ll gather at 4:00 PM at Mr. Visserplein. Around 4:15 PM, we’ll begin a lovely walk through our neighborhood, stopping at several of the featured locations. A guide will share powerful background stories behind each site.
Around 5:00 PM, we’ll return to the square to toast to De Plantage with drinks, bites, and great company.

We hope to see you there!
Warm greetings from Team De Plantage: Ellis, Alexis, and Iris
