On 13 and 14 September, the city will be in celebration: more than fifty monuments will open their doors during the 39th edition of Open Monument Day Amsterdam. For an entire weekend, visitors can explore unique buildings, hear fascinating stories, and enjoy music, art, and guided tours.
Since there is so much to experience all across Amsterdam, we are highlighting the monuments in the Plantage neighborhood β four beautiful places where history and culture meet, and where special activities will be taking place this weekend.
Sint Jacob Chapel β Plantage Middenlaan 52A
The only remaining part of the St. Jacob Hospice, opened in 1866. The impressive chapel space has largely retained its original appearance. A highlight is the stained glass windows by W.M.M. Mengelberg (1942β1952).

Since 1838, ARTIS has been more than a zoo: it also houses historic buildings and society halls where Amsterdammers once gathered and celebrated.

The Plantage Palace β Nieuwe Herengracht 99
Commissioned by Jacob de Granada around 1697, the grand upstairs hall features an extraordinary stucco ceiling in high relief. Also accessible during Open Monument Day are the kitchen, a bedroom, the guest quarters, and the garden.
