00:00:00event

ARTIS has reached a milestone: the restoration of the historic ARTIS Aquarium has been completed after four years! This remarkable building from 1882 has not only been restored but also been made future-proof with sustainable upgrades like solar panels and an innovative water system.

In addition to preserving the original design, the aquarium has been equipped with modern technology to create optimal living conditions for fish, corals, and other underwater life. The centuries-old Lloyd filtration system, a unique circulation system for purifying seawater, has been restored and remains operational.

Reopening in 2026
With the symbolic handover of the keys, ARTIS is now ready for the next phase: setting up the aquariums and developing exhibition spaces that highlight the importance of water. In 2026, visitors will embark on a journey through world oceans, rivers, and even the beloved Amsterdam canals, bringing stories of biodiversity and the relationship between humans and water to life.
