Now on view at World Museum Amsterdam: Building Black Civilizations – The Nile 3025 CE by internationally acclaimed artist Ekow Nimako.
This monumental Afrofuturist artwork – built from one million black LEGO® bricks – marks Nimako’s Dutch debut. At the heart of the exhibition stands a nearly seven-metre-long sculpture envisioning a future Africa: connected, flourishing, and free from colonial interruption.
Blending architecture, spirituality, and speculative storytelling, Nimako creates a visionary landscape that invites visitors to look – and think – differently.
“An artwork can be both a bridge to the past and an invitation to look toward the future.” – Ekow Nimako
🤲 Build together
A highlight of the exhibition is the interactive space, where visitors can build with over 80,000 recycled LEGO® bricks. Every creation – a bridge, a mountain, a home – becomes part of a growing collective artwork.
This exhibition appeals to art lovers, LEGO® fans, and families alike – a unique experience where imagination, architecture, and Afrofuturism meet in a hopeful vision of the future. 🌍
