Splendor is also marking May 4 and 5 with a special programme of stories and music at the Badhuis and the Uilenburgersjoel. Visitors are warmly welcome.
On May 4, Open Jewish Homes of Resistance takes place, featuring three talks about Jewish life in and around the neighbourhood before and during the war. Mia Corbey-van Praag (1934) shares her personal memories, historian Angelique van der Pol tells the story of police officer Jaap Knol’s resistance, and writer Ewoud Sanders takes visitors into the world of Jewish street life.
That same evening at 20:45, the commemorative concert Memento takes place in the Uilenburgersjoel, with soprano Johannette Zomer, lutenist Mike Fentross and bass clarinettist Maarten Ornstein. A reflective programme with music about hope, loss and longing.
On May 5 at 19:00, the concert Freedom – The Fruit of Silence follows, performed by Julija Hartig & Friends. A musical programme exploring the inner cost of peace, featuring works by Vasks, Janáček and Shostakovich.
