On May 4 and 5, Kriterion hosts a programme dedicated to remembrance and liberation. Through films, talks, food, and music, we reflect on the past, while engaging with the meaning of freedom today!
May 4: remembrance
We begin the day with a free lecture about “De Kriterion Meisjes: Otti Lim” (15:00-16:00, K2), where Anna Eva Boogaard and Marian Zanen, Otti Lim’s daughter, share her story, reflecting on her resistance work and postwar life.
In the evening, a commemorative ritual by Oy Vey (19:30-20:10, Café) creates space for collective reflection.
The day concludes with a screening of Bedrock (20:30, K3), a poetic documentary exploring life on Holocaust sites in contemporary Poland.
May 5: liberation
On Liberation Day, we turn to the aftermath of the war and the ongoing meaning of freedom.
At 17:00 in K2, we present Nederlandse Joden na de Bevrijding, with an introduction by Michal Citroen. This is followed by Camp de Thiaroye (19:00, K2), introduced by a talk with Chris de Ploeg.
From 18 to 21, there will also be a vegan “Vrijheidssoep” (Freedom Soup!) to share a meal together for free, and an live improvised jazz session session in the café, with a percutionist, a bassist, and a saxophone player, to celebrate and close the programme.
