This year, Filmtheater Kriterion celebrates its 80th anniversary!
Since 1945, Kriterion has been a symbol of film, freedom, and self-determination — founded by students and kept alive by new generations ever since. Eight decades later, the spirit of independence is still going strong.
From 6 to 9 November, Kriterion looks back at its rich history, celebrates the present, and raises a glass to the future. Expect films, music, exhibitions, parties, talks, memories, and surprises throughout the weekend. 🍾
📽️ Highlights
- Anniversary parties in the beloved K3 cinema hall
- A special lecture on the history of Kriterion
- Book presentation and sale: De Kriterionmeisjes by Anna Eva Boogaard
- Screenings of iconic “Kriterion” films that shaped the cinema’s identity
Among them, the classic Brief Encounter (1945) – the very first film ever screened at Kriterion after its opening, and now a long-standing anniversary tradition.
