On Sunday 30 November, the National Maritime Museum will once again host Green Sunday – a day dedicated to sharing, swapping and reusing – a sustainable alternative to Black Friday
Together with neighbourhood partners, we want to offer a positive counterbalance to the shopping rush around Black Friday. Because gifts and festive outfits don’t always have to be new — sharing and reusing can be just as stylish and meaningful.
After the success of previous editions, the neighbourhood asked us to bring Green Sunday back. This year, the event also ties in with our new exhibition Oceanista – Fashion & Sea, highlighting the power of sharing and reusing clothing.
🛍️ What to expect
A cheerful giveaway market where local residents can shop for free, a clothing swap with quality items, a gift-wrapping station run by volunteers, and of course coffee and treats.
There will also be guided tours of Oceanista at 13:00 and 14:00.
🕚 Times
The market runs from 11:00 to 16:00.
Visitors who mention Green Sunday at the entrance will receive free admission to the museum.

Do you have any items from your organisation that could be donated?
This could be as simple as a few leftover items from your shop, props from an exhibition, or even hosting a small stand during the market.
In this way, we can connect with our neighbours and fellow Amsterdammers while promoting a more sustainable festive season.
We’ll make sure the event is shared and promoted throughout the neighbourhood via various channels.
🎁 What you can donate
- Quality clothing (for swapping, not collection)
- Leftover shop stock or materials
- Exhibition props or decorations
- Interior items (such as paint, wallpaper, vases)
- Books, toys, cards
- Non-perishable food for De Omgekeerde Supermarkt (local food bank)
🚫 Please don’t bring: broken or worn items, large furniture, children’s clothing or fresh produce.
📦 Donations can be dropped off during museum opening hours in the week before Green Sunday, or brought along on the day itself.
